Duffy Books to take Home!

We were very excited to be given two Duffy Books to take home and treasure.  Kohatu, Tevita, Teejay, Najari, Madison and Phoenyx are showing their favourite books.  Thank you Duffy Foundation for giving us such wonderful books.  Room 16

Greeting The Malama Honua Voyagers

We were able to touch the hands of the educators involved in the Malama Honua Voyage.  Those hands had learnt how to sail Hokule'a and Hikianalia all the way from Hawaii using the stars to guide them.  Sam Ohu Gon was one of these brave voyagers who learnt these ancient skills so that they can be passed on to others.  Thank you Sam for sharing your knowledge. Room 16

Hokule'a and Hikianalia

We waited patiently to see the two ocean voyaging canoes from the Malama Honua Worldwide Voyage.  They looked magnificent anchored off Pt England.  Imagine going around the world in such a small craft.  They are brave sailors.  Room 16

Malama Houa Visit

Can you image two thousand children welcoming the Malama Honua Worldwide Voyage?  It was exciting to be part of two thousand children from the Manaiakalani cluster of schools who sang and welcomed the group from Hawaii.  We practised the waiata and sang beautifully.  Room 16

Lunch boxes, Lunch boxes!

We are very lucky to each receive a new lunch box.  Our lunch boxes had been part of a sculpture so we stacked them up into a tower like in the book "Lunch Boxes".  Thank you Feed the Kids Trust. By Class 16

Duffy Certificates

We have had Duffy certificates awarded to three hard working students.  William got his certificate for good listening and being able to complete his iPad tasks.  Jade F made great progress with her swimming and Leigharna is an awesome photographer and has a great "can do" attitude towards her iPad learning.  Room 16

Folding it Flat

Jade and Kohatu showed us how to fold our milk cartons flat and Daz found it easy to post it in the blue bin when it was flattened.  All of Room 16 enjoy their milk on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Room 16

Practise, Practise, Practise

Ashley and Leigharna have been busy practising their iPad skills.  By listening hard and practising they can now use the shape tool with ease.  You can be pleased with your efforts Ashley and Leigharna.

Learning a New Waiata

Learning a new waiata can be difficult when you are only five.  Whaea Safron is teaching us a new waiata with actions.  Room 16 did a good job at their first efforts at learning the words and actions of the first part of the Nga Waka.

"Drinking it Dry."

On Tuesday we all learnt how to "Drink it dry.  Fold it flat.  Sent it back."  Journey Lee enjoyed "drinking it dry" and Najari managed to flatten his carton.  We may need a bit more practise at folding it flat but we did try to do it. Class 16

William Writes with a Stylus

William was very excited when he was able to write his name on his iPad.  He has been listening hard during iPad lessons and following what to do.  It isn't easy writing with a stylus!  Class 16

Helping a classmate to float like a starfish.

At swimming we all joined hands into a circle to help each other float like a starfish.  Jade is helping William to float.  What great Pt Englanders helping each other.  Class 16

A Starfish

Madison was able to demonstrate very good "starfish" at the pool on both her front and her back.  She makes it look so easy to float like a starfish.  Well done Madison.  Class 16

Doing Maths problems on the Ipad!

We had fun using our iPads for maths.  We had to use our new skills we learnt with Mrs George to help solve a maths problem.  We had to lock our photos and our writing.  There are lots of things to remember but Madison did all the steps right to come up with an answer.  Well done Madison for remembering what to do.  Class 16

We practiced using the iPad tools we learnt about this week with our maths lesson.  Jade is taking a photo of her bears on the tens frame while Ryder and Kohatu show what they are able to do.  Well done Class 16 for your great listening in getting the job done.  Class 16

Fun at Swimming

Look at Sophie practicing her swimming skills.  You look like a champion Sophie!  Jade and William were practicing floating on their backs.  They look like they could go to sleep.  Great swimming skills everyone.  Class 16

A Good Pt Englander

Najari has only been at Pt England for a few weeks but he has already learnt how to be a good Pt Englander and help others.  Well done, Najari.  I hope you enjoy your Duffy book.

Swimming Time!

Yeah it's swimming time!  Finally it is our turn for swimming lessons.  We had to sit on the step and listen very carefully to our instructor.  She asked us to put our heads under the water and blow bubbles.  Class 16

No Play Today

The rain came down in big heavy drops.  It made us run fast back to class.  Then there was loud thunder.  We were brave and watched out the window as the rain made big puddles.  Co-constructed story by Room 16 after the thunder storm.
