Making A Pretend Volcano

A volcano science experiment was something the children enjoyed doing after learning how volcanoes are formed.  They knew that a volcano is usually a conical shape when the molten rock or magma, ash and gases from under the earth's surface escapes from an opening so when we made some pretend volcanoes out of sand, they were able to make a conical shape.  The next step was to put some baking soda and vinegar into the "crater" to make the lava and watch the results.
