A Gift of Grapes

Today we were very lucky to be given some lovely grapes for our morning snack.  They had been grown by Flynn's Grandad.  The children enjoyed the grapes and thought they tasted and smell different than store bought ones.  Thanks to Flynn's grandad for his gift.

Looking After Ourselves

Nurse Amy came to talk to us at our team assembly.  She talked about her job as a nurse at Pt England and told the children what she does when they report a sore throat.   Alarmanda was very brave and helped Nurse Amy show the children how she takes the children's temperature.  Thank you Alarmanda for helping Nurse Amy.

Team One Awards for Week 6

Seini and Kristina were the Room 16 award winners at the Team One assembly in week 6.  Seini got her award for helping her classmates when she saw they needed a friend.  Seini would quietly go and sit beside them to offer comfort.  Well done Seini, that is a lovely example of being a good Pt Englander.  Kristina quietly gets on with her work and completes her tasks to a high standard.  You have a good attitude towards your learning Kristina.  Keep it up!

Milk and Fruit

Having a mid morning snack of milk and fruit is a great brain break for the children.  They learnt to "drink it dry, fold it flat and send it back" - the milk cartons are recycled into roofing tiles so the cartons need to be completely emptied and folded flat.  The cartons proved to be quite difficult to fold for small hands but with more practise it won't be so difficult.

Buddy Reading

Reading to your buddy is a popular task in Room 16.  Jaycob is doing a great job of helping Jeremiah with his reading before reading his own book to him.  The children enjoy demonstrating their reading skills to their buddies as well as listening to books read by a different group.

Lifejacket Drill

Safety in the water is very important.  At swimming we were taught how to put on a life jacket - to zip, buckle and adjust to fit.  Then we were told how you need to look after each other by making a huddle.  Even non swimmers got a chance to practise on dry land.  Now we all know what to do if we were ever in that situation in the water.

Room 16 Goes Swimming

Learning to swim over the last few weeks has been fun.  Along with floating like a starfish, making monkey cheeks, splashing with pointy ballerina toes and kicking across the pool with a board the children learnt about safety at a pool and at the beach.  You can see how much the children have enjoyed their lessons.  Thanks to the swim instructors at the Glen Innes Pools.

A Beautiful Day At The Beach

All of Pt England School spent a day down at Pt England Reserve and beach on Friday.  It was a beautiful sunny day made for swimming, digging in the sand, playing ball games, playing in the playground and having a picnic with your friends and families.  There were some very tired children walking back to school after such a fun filled day but the chatter about their day showed how much they had enjoyed the school picnic.  Many thanks to all the parents who came and helped out.  Special thanks to Flynn's Mum and Dad who helped Room 16.

The children were excited to see the octopus kite take to the air.

We have been very lucky to have the expert instruction of the Glen Innes Swimming Pool Instructors these last few weeks when we go swimming.  The children know how important it is to thank people who help us so they have been busy making and decorating thank you cards to show their appreciation.

Team Work Gets the Job Done.

Abbey started to build a tower out of Duplo this morning.  It became so tall that she needed Kristina's help to put the last lot of bricks in place while she steadied the bottom part of the tower.  Great team work Abbey and Kristina.
