Our New White Board

Mr Shaw and Mr Andrew came to replace our white board with a new one.  There was lots of noise getting the old board off and underneath there was an old blackboard.  The children had fun writing their names on the old board with chalk.  Now we have a nice clean board.

Skip Counting

Ahasi is learning to skip count to 20 and put the counting sticks in the right order.  After recounting, checking, and reordering one stick he gets it right.  Well done Ahasi and Abbey.

Muddy Puddles

With all the rain Auckland has experienced lately, our playing fields have become a little muddy in places.  While mud is great to slush around in and attracts children like a magnet, Mr Burt asked the children to stay out of the mud and the puddles so that the grass did not get damaged.  The children were very good and remembered to keep out of the puddles at playtime and lunchtime.

Always Here, Never Late

These group of children were the term 2 week 2 winners of the Always here, never late certificates.  Well done to Marzuli, Ahasi, Seini, Jerome, Abbey and Bentley for making the most of their learning time.

Serve For New Zealand

Today New Zealanders celebrate ANZAC Day.  As we honour those that have served us in previous wars, an initiative has asked New Zealanders to volunteer or undertake an act of service either on, or in the lead up to, ANZAC Day.  Prince Harry backed this initiative saying, "This initiative is a way for kiwis to remember the service of others in the past, and to continue that tradition of generosity and sacrifice in a practical way."
Point England school decided to serve our community by tidying up the local reserve on the last day of term but Cyclone Cook had other ideas.  We have postponed our task of service until next term but we did get out and tidy up our grounds.

Ahasi's Rabbits

Ahasis put lots of detail in his Kid Pix picture of Easter bunny and his friend.

"They won't be hungry because they have lots of carrots to eat.  Rabbits like eating carrots."

Milk and Fruit

Having a mid morning snack of milk and fruit is a great brain break for the children.  They learnt to "drink it dry, fold it flat and send it back" - the milk cartons are recycled into roofing tiles so the cartons need to be completely emptied and folded flat.  The cartons proved to be quite difficult to fold for small hands but with more practise it won't be so difficult.

Fixing the Teaching Station

The teaching station's wheels became wobbly and wouldn't move very well so I had to ask Mr Andrews if he could have a look at it.  The children were very interested in the tools Mr Andrews brought with him to use - an electric drill, a screw driver and a pair of pliers and they were keen to see how each tool was used.  It didn't take long for the teaching station to be up right and on four wheels that run smoothly.  Thank you Mr Andrews for a lesson in tools and how to fix things as well as repairing the teaching station.

A Duffy Award for Ahasi

Ahasi was awarded a Duffy certificate and book for consistently being on task and finishing things off properly.  Well done, Ahasi.

Get, Set Go.

At Get, Set, Go we had great fun learning to balance.  We balanced on one leg, on our tummies on our bottoms and in all sorts of ways.  We had to listen carefully to what Alan wanted us to do.  We found that putting your arms out and not talking helped us balance.

Starting Swimming

Today was the first day of our Team 1 swimming programme.  Eight children from Room 16  enthusiastically participated as their skills were assessed.  Hopefully we will have more children joined the programme.  Thanks to the instructors for providing these classes.

New Buddies in Room 16

We have had two new buddies join our class.  Levi began school on 19 October while Ahasi joined us this morning.  Welcome to you both.  I am sure you will soon have lots of friends at Pt England.
