Beginning Cross Country Training

Today we began training for the cross country run.  As it is so muddy out on the field team one stuck to the hard court area for their run.  The children had an older runner as the leader so they would know how to follow leader around a course.  They warmed up, ran the course then warmed down following instructions and doing their best.  Well done team one.

Six Lovely Teachers

The term 3 Inquiry theme is Guardians of the Galaxy.  We had an amazing immersion assembly on Monday with the assembly hall turned into a planetarium with stars on the ceiling and a drone flying through the darken hall like an alien space ship with flashing lights.  Team one is studying the moon and sun so here is our immersion film.

Celebrating Matariki

We celebrated Matariki at Pt England by doing Matariki related activities.  Each student choose to do an activity such as arts and crafts, music, movies or food and then they were put into groups with each teacher taking a different activity with a group of children from teams one to five.
The group that worked in Room 16 made kites.  The older children helped the younger children research a kite design of their choice and then use the available resources to make it.  Unfortunately the weather did not let the children test most of the kites but they had a wonderful day working co operatively with children not usually in their class.

Using Your Imagination

On a wet lunch hour the children saw different possibilities when playing with the bristle bricks.  Alarmanda, Abbey and Talanoa made fidget spinners while James made a plane.

Team 5 's Technology Display

Team 5 have had a very busy term thinking of ways they could improve their area - then planning, designing and implementing these ideas.   Team one visited their displays and looked at a wide range of things from a garden, cushions designed and made by the students, and lots of games.

Thank you Team 5 for sharing all your creations with us and for being wonderful guides to help us understand what you have been doing this term.

Hawaiian Hula Group

On 4 July a Hula group from a school in Hawaii visited Pt England and we were able to watch them perform several hulas.  The children appreciated their dancing and thought it was a bit like many of their pacific style of dance with soft hand movements.

"I liked the dancers.  They have beautiful hands," said Abbey.

Back in da Day

The Year 5 and 6 extension group put on a performance of "Back in da Day".  They wrote the script, drew the digital backdrops, performed music which they had written, as well as choreographing and performing dances.  What an amazingly talented group - we all enjoyed the performance and look forward to seeing some of their talents in our school production next term.
