Making ANZAC Poppies

On our home learning site, I suggested for ANZAC Day the children might like to make an ANZAC poppy.  Being in lockdown has meant that we can't gather together with our families or go to Dawn parades or Civic ceremonies but many children were making poppies and putting the poppies in a window or on their fence.  Cruze's Mum sent me photos of Cruze making a poppy and decorating it.  What a good idea to decorate it with drawings Cruze!

More of Cruze's Home Learning

Cruze has been making the most of the lockdown to continue his learning at home.  Cruze has been reading, drawing, making things, exploring in his back yard, cooking and doing a lot of learning.  Thanks to Cruze's Mum for all the lovely pictures.

Cruze Went Walking

With all the lovely fine weather, Cruze and his family were able to walk down to the beach.  It looked like you enjoyed your time out today Cruze if you wanted to come back home and draw a picture to remind you of the fun you had.  You are lucky to have the beach close by.

Elena's Writing

Elena has been doing lots of story writing as well as learning to write her numbers.  I wonder where you managed to find your Easter Eggs on your Easter Hunt.  Did you have to look really hard for them?  You have drawn a beautiful picture of a rabbit in your other story.  You have added lots of detail and made him look lovely and fluffy.  Great work Elena.

Making A Marble Run: An Idea From Cruze

Marble runs are great fun.  You all liked building up runs with our one in the class but you can make one at home .  Cruze and his big brother Eziaz collected up milk containers, egg cartons boxes and tubes to create little tunnels or bridges for marbles to run along.  They started to build it from the bottom and worked their way up to the top.  Here are some pictures to give you ideas on how you could build your own marble run.  Thank you to Cruze's Mum for the photos and ideas and well done to Cruze and Ezias for the great building job.

Cruze's Arts and Craft Ideas

Cruze has been busy doing some great arts and craft work.  I thought it is a good idea to share the pictures his Mum sent me on our blog to give you ideas of what you might like to try.  The first idea is using things from your garden.  Cruze decorated a plate using some petals as well as flowers to make a pretty design.

His second idea was to use some foliage (leaves) to decorate his art work.

Then he decorated some more tubes with faces and other details to make some animals.

What a cute way to use a cardboard tube to make an animal.  If you don't have a cardboard tube you can cut a piece to paper to the length you want then roll it up and secure it with tape or an elastic band.  Then comes the fun part of drawing a face.  You could make it into a person by drawing the facial features, hair and even draw some clothes or even an imaginary animal.  Thank you Cruze for such wonderful ideas on things we can make.

At The Beach

As we are all in lockdown at present I thought you might enjoy watching a movie about our day at the beach back in March.  We all had a great day - swimming, digging in the sand, sliding on cardboard down the hill, playing on the playground and having a picnic with our friends.

Kiwi Sport: Get Set Go

We were fortunate to have the Kiwi Sport Get Set Go programme in the first term.  Coach Lucky taught us some fun games as we learnt the skill of balance.  We balanced bean bags on parts of our body and had fun listening to instructions as to what part of our body Coach Lucky wanted us to balance on the floor.  It was fun trying to do this as we had to think carefully about how we could achieve this.

Cruze's Amazing Home Learning

Cruze has been doing some amazing things to keep up his learning.  On this blog I will share some of the photos his Mum has sent me.  Cruze has not only been busy learning his words, and doing letter activity sheets, he has been playing games too.  Games are a fun way of learning.  Cruze has been doing Jumpjam and riding his bike outside to keep fit.  He has also been doing some fantastic craft activities which I will blog about separately.  They might give you some ideas about what you could make out of things you have at home.

Painting Fun

Before the lockdown we were busy trying to get our portraits finished.  Peyton and Tone were busy painting their portraits and colourful backgrounds with their families in the thought bubble.

Elena's Home Learning

Elena has been keen to keep learning during the lockdown.  Her Mum has sent me some pictures of her learning and a video of Elena saying our school karakia and doing maths.  Keep up the good work Elena - I like the way you have also been doing a picture about your work too.

Cruze Learns about Snails

Cruze has been making the most of his time at home.  He and his brother found a snail at home on their scooter.  It was crawling across the handlebar so Cruze decided to learn some more about snails.   He found some information on line about giant snails.  They sure look interesting but I am pleased that they don't live in New Zealand Cruze.  Keep up the great learning!

Cruze the Chef

Cooking lunch for the family is a great learning activity -  measuring and counting out what you need.  Cruze's healthy cooking makes me feel hungry!

Subitizing Dot Patterns

Playing a dice game was a fun introduction to learning about subitizing.  Subitizing is being able to tell the number in a set quickly without counting.  We know that 3 dots diagonally across a dice is the pattern for the number 3 and 3 dots in two rows is the number 6.  In our game we had to place coloured counters over the same amount of dots on a picture as was shown on the dice.
Attah and Chad checking what was on the dice and how many counters were added.

Cruze Is Ready For The Big New Zealand Easter Egg Hunt

As we are all having a different Easter in lockdown, Cruze has been busy colouring in some Easter Eggs and putting them on his window.  Children going for a walk are able to look for the decorated eggs and see how many are in their street.  You have done a great job Cruze and are helping to keep other children happy while they go out for a walk in the sunshine.  Thanks to Cruze's Mum for the photos.

Cruze's Mum sent me this photo of Cruze enjoying his Easter egg hunt.  Wow Cruze you look as if you had a very successful Easter egg hunt!  You followed the map your Mum drew for you and found all those eggs.

Learning To Play Rippa Rugby

We had two sessions learning how to play Rippa Rugby and the children found it very exciting to run with the ball and score a goal.  In this short movie you will see the enjoyment on the children's faces and hear the excitement of playing rippa rugby!

Room 16s Lunch Box Heroes

Room 16 was lucky that three children had their names drawn out of the lunch box heroes draw.  Taylor got some biscuits, Joelle some Up and Go and Tone go a jar of honey.  I hope you enjoyed sharing your choices from the cupboard with your family.
