The last day of school is always exciting with lots of things happening. The Children got their Christmas goodie bags played with bubbles and wore their Elf hats to the last assembly of the year. Good bye Room 16 and 18 of 2022!
A Fun Day at school is great. You get to share the fun things like water slides and bouncy castles with your friends. Then after our big picnic lunch Santa paid a visit so it looks as if it is getting very near to Christmas.
Going to the zoo is always fun. But sharing a visit with your class buddies is even better. As the day was a bit grey, many of the animals were quite content to watch us watching them. We got some good views of the animals and enjoyed our day at the zoo.
Some empty boxes appeared in our bay and the children decided they would be something exciting to play with. They explored how they could squeeze into, through, over and under the boxes. There was much laughter as they popped out of boxes or disappeared into them. It is not only cats that like to hide in boxes!
The children at Pt England school were fortunate to get some Duffy Books that they could take home to treasure and share with their whanau. Maia and Dion are very happy with their choices.
Leakona and Tamaimon found some tubes and join them together to make one giant tube. They had fun making marbles run down the tube. Then they wanted to find a way of making the marbles run further so they problem solved with some of the car things and found the racing car slope worked the best and made the marbles run further. They had great fun with their trial and error problem solving.
At our recent Athletics Day Sabian participated in the Girls 50 metre sprint and came second. She received at certificate at Assembly.
The Kiwi Kids Charity Road Trip dropped by Pt England School in their amazing cars. They gave a cheque to the school and each child got a drink bottle or a bag. "A friend is one of the best things you can be and the greatest thing you can have."

What makes a good friend? There are many ways to be a good friend - sharing and having fun together, caring and being a good listener. Friends are something we all need and as Raymond says in our movie "life would be boring without friends." There would be no one to share things with or to play with. Here are some of the ways Room 16 have thought of that you can be a good friend.
This weeks Room 16's Duffy Certificate was awarded to Harley. Harley has had a good attitude towards all his learning. Good work Harley.
New Zealand ShakeOut (Whakahaumaru Aotearoa) was our national earthquake drill held on Thursday 27 October. It reminds us of the right action to take during an earthquake and like so many things we need to practise. We even thought about what to do outside so we practised that too.
Harley and Titan practised "Drop. Cover, Hold" inside. |

During Term 3, Team one learnt about emotions. We found that colour in famous paintings could also tell us about emotions, so we set about drawing a self portrait of two emotions in the cubism style. First we made a pencil outline of our face and divided it down the middle. Then we chose two different colour pastels to depict the emotions of happy and sad and coloured in our outline. By drawing over the outline in black felt, it made the face come alive. We then filled in the details.
Here is a movie about making and displaying our masterpieces at the Art Works Exhibition at the end of term 3.
Royston received a Team One Certificate for a big improvement in his reading. Keep up the good work, Royston.
