Fixing the Teaching Station
The teaching station's wheels became wobbly and wouldn't move very well so I had to ask Mr Andrews if he could have a look at it. The children were very interested in the tools Mr Andrews brought with him to use - an electric drill, a screw driver and a pair of pliers and they were keen to see how each tool was used. It didn't take long for the teaching station to be up right and on four wheels that run smoothly. Thank you Mr Andrews for a lesson in tools and how to fix things as well as repairing the teaching station.

Our New Cycle Track
Today the whole school attended the opening of our school cycling track. We have been watching with interest how the cycling track was built with diggers making the pathway then special soil was laid down and compacted and ramps were added. We sang some waiata to thank Variety, Data Dimension, AT and other very generous donors for the wonderful gift of bikes, helmets and a track to ride around on. Lunchtimes will be exciting when it is our turn to use the bikes!
Jump Jam on a wet Friday
We were going to have some fun games outside after team assembly but the sun didn't come out. We had to settle on jump jam inside but Room 16 found it was good fun doing it with their friends.

Week 3 Team Assembly Awards
Room 16's Team One assembly awards this week went to Flynn and Jaycob. Flynn is one of the newest members of Room 16 and he has made a great effort to follow class routines. Jaycob has been helping to keep our classroom neat and tidy without being asked. Well done Jaycob and Flynn.

Balancing Crocodiles!
Room 16 is very good at balancing crocodiles! At Get, Set, Go we had to balance animals on our bodies. Have a look at some clever ways we thought of to balance them.

Get, Set Go.
At Get, Set, Go we had great fun learning to balance. We balanced on one leg, on our tummies on our bottoms and in all sorts of ways. We had to listen carefully to what Alan wanted us to do. We found that putting your arms out and not talking helped us balance.

A Team One Assembly Certificate for Talanoa.
Talanoa was listening hard to the swimming instructor and managed to float like a starfish. He got a Team One Assembly certificate for his efforts in swimming.
Minus 5 Monday
We are a school which promotes healthy eating so we used the Minus 5 campaign to encourage children to eat food with less sugar for their lunch. Here are some of the healthy examples from Room 16.

Visiting the Whare
On Thursday we visited the whare for te Reo lessons. Whaea Saf introduced herself to us and we had to introduce ourselves. Some of us were shy about speaking te Reo but Jeremiah got up and said in a lovely clear voice, "Ko Jeremiah ahau." Well done Jeremiah - you got a team assembly award for participation in te Reo this week.

Duffy Certificate Awards for Week 1 and 2
Alfonzo was Room 16's Duffy Certificate Award winner for Week one. He was being very kind using the Pt England Way to look after classmates. Kristina quietly gets on with classwork after carefully listening to the instructions so she was the week 2 winner. Congratulations to you both for using the Pt England Way.

Duffy Theatre
The Duffy Theatre came to Pt England school today. Duffy taught Millicent how important it is to learn to read - even if you find it tricky, there are ways of remembering words. The children thought the costumes were beautiful. Thanks to the Duffy Theatre for performing for us.

Learning to use our iPads
Each day we are learning new skills on our iPads. Today we had fun learning to use the camera in Explain Everything. We took photos of things in our class and our friends and then learnt how to put more than one photo on a page. The smiles show how much the children are enjoying learning to use their iPads.

Exploring our Environment
Today we went to the Omaru Creek to observe what lived in and around the creek. We sat quietly watching the pukekos, ducks and a shag feeding and listened to other birds calling each other. We enjoyed our first visit to the creek and hope to see more animals and birds on our next visit.
