Team Assembly Certificates Week 2 Term 4

Paaka is third from the left and Utukura is fourth.
Paaka and Utukura were the Team certificate winners this week.  Paaka is great at helping to keep our class tidy.  He can see when things aren't in their right place and he will tidy up without being asked.  Utukura has been busy practising his words and has gone up another level in his spelling.  Well done to both boys.

Exploring Seashore Treasures

Team One went down to Pt England beach to explore and see what animals live there.  We had a great time watching some of the snails, crabs and creatures crawling and scuttling around.  We did not bring any of the creatures back to school but left them where they belong.  We did take lots of pictures which made this movie for us all to enjoy.

"What Is The Cat Symbol?"

Mrs Craruthers helping AJ
We have finally found out how to use "Scratch" when Mrs Carruthers came to show us.  We sat in a circle and listened carefully so that we could make a coded instruction to make a character dance then we added a noise and an extra character.  Coding is great fun!  Thank you Mrs Carruthers for helping us with our learning.

Gardening at Makerspace

Our class garden looks very bare.  During Makerspace this week the children started to dig up the soil so that we can plant something in the garden.  I wonder if we will plant some flowers or will we plant some beans like Jack and the Beanstalk?  Watch this space to see what we plant.

Cinderella Stories

AS our Inquiry topic incorporates fairy tales we have started learning about the fairytale Cinderella.  There are different stories based on Cinderella but we all liked the traditional tale best.  Here are some of our stories.
"Cinderella's step sisters were going to the ball.  They were not kind to Cinderella.  Then the Fairy Godmother turned her dress into a beautiful dress with glass shoes."  Story and picture by Kalylah

"Cinderella went to the ball in a golden coach.  The coach driver took Cinderella to the ball."  Story and picture By Mele

"Cinderella looked at the time.  It was 12 o'clock.  She had to leave quickly because the magic began to run out."  By A J

"Cinderella went to the ball.  She had a beautiful dress and glass slippers."  By Aie Sorn

"Cinderella had two unkind stepsisters and a step mother.  They made Cinderella clean the house.  She cleaned the house for ever."  By Utukura

"Cinderella went to the ball.  She danced with the Prince.  They got married."  By Harmeny

National Shake Out Day

We had a practice earthquake drill on National Shake Out Day.  The children immediately recognised something was different when they heard a "new" noise on the intercom system.  I quitely explained that it was an earthquake drill and that we were staying inside and getting under the tables to stop, drop and hold.  There was no fuss and the discussion afterwards raised a good point - "What do we do if it was at lunchtime?"  Utukura was able to show us how we could protect ourselves outside.
Well done Utukura for showing us all what to do.
