Film Festival Presenters

Filipo and Kalylah did a very good job being Room 16s presenters at the Manaiakalani Film Festival.  They gave up their lunchtimes to learn their lines and practise.  Big thanks also go to Ofili who learnt the script as a backup presenter.

Ofili and Utukura have been busy drawing gingerbread men in hyperstudio.  "It is a bit tricky trying to draw with the mouse," said Ofili.  But both boys have done a great job with their pictures.

Our Goldilocks and The Three Bears Stories

This term we have been looking at fairy stories.  The children have enjoyed listening to old favourites as well as new ones and writing their own recounts about them.  Here are some recounts about Goldilocks and the Three Bears.

" Once upon a time there was a cottage in the woods.  The three Bears lived in the cottage.  They liked porridge but not too hot.  Goldilocks liked porridge too and she ate Baby Bear's porridge all up"  Story and picture by Aie Sorn

An Exciting Outing

It was an exciting outing going to see ourselves on the big screen at Sylvia Park for the Manaiakalani Film Festival.  Year Four buddies looked after us on the buses and in the theatre.

Halloween and Fireworks Stories

With Halloween and Guy Fawkes being celebrated this last week we talked about having fun but keeping safe.  The children were able to have discussions about safety and included this in their stories.

Ofili's Weekend Story

Ofili had an exciting weekend when he went to watch his Uncle play rugby.

"In the weekend I went to my uncle's rugby.  He tackled and tackled.  We shouted "Fiji" and my Uncle won the trophy."

Team Assembly Certificates Term 3 Week 5

We have had some helping hands in Room 16 who without being asked will help others with their work and help tidy the classroom.  Isabella and Ofili have been awesome helpful Pt Englanders.

Vision Testing

Today all the students in Room 16 had their vision tested by the Optometry students from the University of Auckland.  The children had to look at a smiley face while the machine made an assessment of their vision.  Then it was on to a series of tests to verify the readings.  The children enjoyed this new experience.

New Duffy Books for the Holidays

At assembly on the last day we received a box of Duffy books just in time for the children to take home a new book to read during the holidays.  The children were very excited with the books and sat sharing their choices with each other.  Thanks to the Duffy Foundation.

Team One Awards

Isabella received a team one certificate as she has been very helpful in the class and Ofili has been learning his spelling words each week.  Darren received his certificate from last week as he has been trying very hard with his reading and writing.

Ofili has some new shoes that light up when he stamps the ground.  They look pretty special when they light up red.

Ofili and Ace decided to make a tall tower out of Duplo to pass the time during a recent wet lunchtime.

Ofili was lucky to have his name drawn out of the lunchbox Hero draw box.  He chose a bunch of bananas.

Aj and Ofili were the Team One Award winners for week 9.  They have both been trying hard "to finish it off properly" getting tasks done before the end of term.

Many Hands Make Light Work

Following up our topic of All about Me in Inquiry, at Makerspace this week the children made a house and decorated it.  This involved measuring as well as craft skills such as folding and cutting.  The children were excited to be able to bring the house back to the class.

Haircut Time

Filipo and Ofili both arrived at school sporting new haircuts.  "I went and had my haircut,"said Filipo.  "So did I!" said Ofili.  Your new haircuts look good.
