Film Festival Presenters

Filipo and Kalylah did a very good job being Room 16s presenters at the Manaiakalani Film Festival.  They gave up their lunchtimes to learn their lines and practise.  Big thanks also go to Ofili who learnt the script as a backup presenter.

Working in Hyperstudio

Ofili and Utukura have been busy drawing gingerbread men in hyperstudio.  "It is a bit tricky trying to draw with the mouse," said Ofili.  But both boys have done a great job with their pictures.

Harmeny's Duffy Certificate

Harmeny did her best at her recent reading test so she was this weeks Duffy certificate winner.

Our Goldilocks and The Three Bears Stories

This term we have been looking at fairy stories.  The children have enjoyed listening to old favourites as well as new ones and writing their own recounts about them.  Here are some recounts about Goldilocks and the Three Bears.

" Once upon a time there was a cottage in the woods.  The three Bears lived in the cottage.  They liked porridge but not too hot.  Goldilocks liked porridge too and she ate Baby Bear's porridge all up"  Story and picture by Aie Sorn

" The Three Bears were making porridge.  Then Goldilocks walked up the stairs.  Goldilocks sat on Dad's chair but it was too hard.  Mother Bear's chair was too soft and Baby Bear's chair was just right."  Story and picture by Mele

Mele's picture of the three bears going for a walk

"Mother Bear made some porridge and the porridge was too hot so they went for a walk.  Goldilocks came by.  She looked at the three bowls.  There was a hot big bowl and a cold middle sized bowl and one that was just right."  By Isabella

"Goldilocks liked porridge.  Mother Bear made good porridge."  Story and picture by Corenilias

The bears house and Father Bear by Corenilias

" Goldilocks went to the Bear's house.  She opened the door.  Then she went inside.  She was hungry and she ate the porridge."  Story and picture by Khittamai

"Once upon a time the toru Bears went for a walk.  Goldilocks was eating the porridge.  Father's porridge was too hot.  Mother's was too cold and the little Baby Bear's porridge was just right."  Story and picture by Ofili

" Goldilocks and the three Bears.  Goldilocks ate Baby Bear's porridge.  Goldilocks went up the stairs and she went to sleep and the Three Bears found her in bed."  Story by Darren

Making a New Friend

Room 16 children made a movie about how to make new friends. Sometimes it can be hard to make new friends but Room 16 all agreed that being kind and helpful went a long way to showing others that you wanted to be a friend. We hope you enjoy our movie.  Please leave us a comment on our blog.

AJ's Picture

AJ had been reading a book about Chug the tractor and his reading activity asked for him to draw a picture of Chug.  AJ did such a good job of his picture I took a picture of it for the blog.  Well done AJ.  I like the details on the front of the tractor.

Repairing The Window Winders

Today Mr Shaw and Mr Andrew came to repair our window winder.  They used an electric drill and we learnt how it put the screws into the wall.  It also provided a discussion on how a screw is a thread fastener as well as being a simple machine.   Thank you Mr Shaw and Mr Andrew for our impromptu science lesson and for letting us look at some of the tools you use.

Halloween and Fireworks Stories

With Halloween and Guy Fawkes being celebrated this last week we talked about having fun but keeping safe.  The children were able to have discussions about safety and included this in their stories.

"Tonight is fireworks.  Children can't touch fireworks."  By Mele

"Its fireworks and they are not for children.  My Dad can do it so that it is safe."  By Ace

" My Mum lit up the fireworks.  It was pretty.  We will not light fireworks.  We will look after our pets."  By Paaka

"The fireworks look like silver and gold up in the sky.  Tonight will be fire works night and fireworks are fun." By AJ

"Last night I went to Halloween at my neighbours home and I saw the lollies.  They were looking tasty.  I was going to eat my lollies and my Dad said to eat healthy and I ate the fruit."  By Ofili

Isabella's Story about "The Lion and the Mouse".

Isabella shared her reading book with her parents over the weekend and she enjoyed the story so much that she wrote about it on Monday.  "The Lion and the Mouse" is a funny story because you wonder how a mouse can help a big lion.  It all turns out fine in the end.

"In the weekend I did my reading to my Mum and Dad.  I read "The Lion and the Mouse".  It was a funny story about a mouse helping a lion."
