Room 16 Artists At Work

We are all artists in Room 16.  We have enjoyed exploring colours and different techniques in art this term.  We have found that different colours evoke different emotions, and that you can make any colour you want by mixing paints together.  Here are some of the pieces of art we have created.

Peyton went to read with Mrs Wilson and did some amazing reading.  She thought about the story and was able to answer the questions about the story.  Great work Peyton!

Three Lunch Box Heroes

This week Room 16 had three lunch box heroes who know what they need to have in their lunch box to have a healthy lunch.    For their rewards Meria chose some crackers and cheese, Elevina a tin of fruit salad and Elena chose a pineapple.  I hope you enjoyed your rewards with your whanau.

Wacky Wheels Day

This year for the Manaiakalani Film Festival Team One worked together to make a movie about Wheels Day. We enjoyed making this movie together about what happened to Serena and Ashleigh when they wished to be small enough to go for a ride in the Barbie car.  There are two movies so you need to watch them in order iframe

Cruze's Duffy Certificate

Cruze was awarded a Duffy Certificate for his artistic work of fireworks night. First he chose different colours to colour in a piece of paper. Next he painted over the colours with black paint to represent the dark night sky. Then came the fun part of scratching a picture of what fireworks look like when they are exploding in colourful bursts in the sky. He also wrote a story to go with his picture. Great work Cruze.

Team One Assembly

Today being Thursday, it was certificate day in Team One.  It is hard to just pick two children to receive a certificate when everyone has been working extra hard but this week it was Elena and Pauliasi who received a certificate.

Thursday is Certificate Day

On the last Thursday of term we had a celebration of some of the amazing learning that Room 16 have been doing.  Eli got his certificate for some great maths thinking with fractions.  Cruze has been writing some stories I have enjoyed reading.  Elevina used a picture to write an amazing story about a boy riding his bike and she was able to write words by herself.  We also celebrated Pauliasi's birthday with a certificate.

Tongan Language Week

During Tongan Language Week we were fortunate to be entertained by our school Tongan group.  Because of social distancing and the fact that we are not able to have assembly, Mrs Lagitupu videoed the group and then played it on our school live streamed assembly.

While we were watching the video,  we were treated to Chad standing up in class and joining the dance because he knew it, having learnt the dance for his Nana's birthday.  Thank you Chad we did enjoy your dancing.  It was great that you felt you could join in.

Duffy Certificate Award

Pauliasi has been reading his reading books very well.  He has been remembering some of his reading words at his level and when he reads he makes it sound as if he is talking.  What a great effort you are making with your reading, writing and maths Pauliasi.  Enjoy your award.

Our Individual Blogs

Some of the children are beginning to write their own individual blogs.  They have blogged about school events, sports teams, what they have been up to or what they have been writing about.  So don't forget to check out the individual blogs as well as our class blog.  You will find their names on the right hand side of the class blog.  These names are linked to their blog.

Click on a name and it will bring you to the child's blog.

Thursday is Certificate Day

Today is Thursday so it is certificate day even though we are not altogether having assembly.  Meria and Samson have both been putting effort into their work this week.  It feels good when you try really hard with your writing and reading and suddenly you find - "Hey I can do it!!"  Good work both of you.  Keep it up and keep surprising yourself!

Look what Room 16 has been up to!

Room 16's movie this term shows what a busy start we had to the term when we were able to do so many things together.  We can still enjoy learning, dancing and singing but we do these things a bit differently.

We are in Mufti

On Friday we were able to wear mufti to school but we couldn't get together for a group photo.  When I looked around the class there was not the usual sea of red and black but all different colours.

Thursday Certificates

Even though we can't get together to have Team One Assembly we have been having our own assembly each day.  Since the children have been working so hard in class, it was only fitting that we continue the Thursday certificate routine.  It was very hard to choose but Peyton has been doing some outstanding thinking in Maths and Joelle has been learning her high frequency words so she can write words in her stories and also recognise them in our flashcard games.  Well done girls!

More of Elena's Home Learning

Elena has continued to do lots of home learning.  She has collected up different coloured items from around her house and written out the colours in English and te Reo.  She has also written sentences using the te reo words.  What a lot of work you have done Elena! Keep up the great work and thanks to Elena's Mum for taking the time to send me the photos.
