Two Lunchbox Heroes

This week we had two lunchbox heroes drawn out of the box.  Joelle and Elevina had their names put in the box because they bring healthy lunches and they were the lucky winners.  Joelle chose a bunch of bananas and Elevina chose a box of Weetbix.

Brain Gym

We have been doing brain gym and other exercises in the morning to wake up our body and brain ready for learning.  The children enjoy the different movements and join in each morning to help with their learning.

Making A Pretend Volcano

A volcano science experiment was something the children enjoyed doing after learning how volcanoes are formed.  They knew that a volcano is usually a conical shape when the molten rock or magma, ash and gases from under the earth's surface escapes from an opening so when we made some pretend volcanoes out of sand, they were able to make a conical shape.  The next step was to put some baking soda and vinegar into the "crater" to make the lava and watch the results.

A Few Highlights from Terms 1 and 2

It was a strange term one and two this year - the beginning of term one and the end of term 2.  We were busy in the second term enjoying being back together after not seeing each other for so long.  Here are a few highlights of some of the things we have done in the first half of 2020.

Team One Certificates

Tone and Taylor both got Team One Certificates this week.  Taylor has been trying hard with his learning and Tone has been helping to keep the classroom clean and tidy even when it is not his mess.  Thank you for your great team attitude Tone, that we all need to help each other.

Chad's Duffy Certificate

We had a visitor at assembly last Friday and Chad got to shake his hand when he went up to get his Duffy Certificate.  The visitor was Joseph Parker!  He spoke to the children, played the guitar and then presented the Duffy Certificates.  You never know who will turn up at assembly!

More Maths Measuring

When we wanted to find out who was the tallest person in our class we just compared our heights.  So when we wanted to find out who had the longest name in our class so we wrote our names on a piece of paper then tried to compare them but we found a problem.  Some people wrote in lovely big letters and some had small writing.  This made a long name look small and a small name look big.  What could we do to make a comparison seem equal?  Then someone remembered that to measure two things, the units of measurement need to be the same - if we all wrote in the same size squares then we could count the squares.  It didn't matter if the writing was big or small!  Rataimore had the longest name as she needed 9 squares to write her name.
