Room 16 Term 1 2022

Looking back at the photos of all the things we have done in the first term, we have managed to squeeze a lot of activities in.  With another variant of COVID circulating in Auckland, our class numbers dropped so we worked as a team.  Many children were isolating and were unable to come to school, but we had plenty of fun activities for those of us at school.  Here are some of last terms highlights.

Ko Wai Ahau?

In te Reo, Whaea Maryanne has been teaching us to how to say our pepeha.  A pepeha is how you introduce yourself in Maori.  It is a way of sharing your connections with the people and places that are important to you.  Here is a movie of Whaea Maryann helping Leakona to say the beginning of his pepeha.  Ka pai  Leakona.

Ways To Say The Alphabet

When we "warm up our brains" for literacy, we read the letters of the alphabet off our butterfly cards, say the sound as well as sign it.  Signing is New Zealand's third official language and the children have quickly learnt to sign the alphabet.  Here is Fa'auma signing the letter "B" while Mareikura is making a butterfly with her hands.

Healthy Snacks

Room 16 has been learning about the importance of having healthy snacks.  The children are encouraged to bring fruit, sandwiches or crackers for their morning tea.  Here are the children with their healthy snacks.  Well done Room 16 for bringing such healthy food for your brain break.

Cheveu And The Jigsaw Puzzle

Cheveu is very good at doing jigsaw puzzles.  She looks carefully at each piece to see if there is somewhere she can join on a new piece, and she continues on until she is finished.  Well done,
Cheveu for "finishing it off properly".

Wheels Fun Day

On Friday Point England school had a fun fund raiser.   We were raising money for Tonga and in exchange for a gold coin, the children could wear mufti and ride their bikes around at school at lunchtime.  There was an assortment of wheel ranging from skate boards, scooters, bikes and trikes.  Mr Burt kindly gave team one rides in his bike trailer and up on the high seat on his bike.  It sure was a fun day and Faauma's face tell you how much fun.

Looking After Our Plants

It has been so warm over the last few days that our plants have needed lots of water.  Titan uses our sprinkler bottle to water the plants.  Using a sprinkler bottle doesn't damage the plants and is like gentle rain falling on the plants.
