Room 16's Lunch Box Hero

Maria has been bringing a healthy lunch to school and so her name went into the draw to be a lunch box hero.  She was lucky to be one of the 10 children to have her name drawn out and she chose the box of strawberries.  Enjoy the lovely fruit Maria.

Young Ocean Explorers at Pt England

Steve from the Young Ocean Explorers came to talk to the children and show some footage that he had shot of marine animals.  Steve is an underwater cameraman and he had some amazing photos of whales, sharks, turtles and other fish close up in their environment.  His talk was a great motivation for our writing as these stories and pictures show just how engaged the children were.
"At school I saw Steve and then we saw some little fish.  Steve went diving in the water."  By Alexandra

"I went to assembly and I saw Steve.  I like the sea animals and he talked about the animals and he took a photo of an octopus."  By Samson
"I went to see the sea.  I was looking at Marlin and turtles and I saw Steve.  Me and Steve went to see the animals."  By Nate

So Many Animals To See

Going to the Zoo is always a fun thing to do especially when you go with all your friends.  Recently Team one went to the Zoo and we were lucky to have a fine day and lots of parents to keep us safe.  We enjoyed looking at all the animals and some of the animals wanted a closer look at us!

Showing Respect

Showing Respect is Room 16's movie for the 2018 Manaiakalani Film Festival.

This year Pt England has had an overall theme of Respect in our Inquiry topics so Room 16 chose this as the focus for their movie.  Fairytales are well known so we put the two together and came up with "Showing Respect".  In the movie a fairy needed help and she turned to Room 16 because she felt that they knew about respect and could show others how to be respectful.  Here's how they did it!

A Rainy Day Activity

On a recent trip to the zoo the boys were interested in the tall towers and cranes we went passed.  With the wet weather over the last two lunchtimes Nate and Tupou decided to try and build a tall tower.  They practised and practised how to build a tower taller than themselves and today they finally made it!
Finding a way to build higher.

The finished tower is taller than the two boys!
