Rainbow Fish

This term we have had the theme to "Make Kindness go viral" - Wheoritia  te atawhai.  We read a story about Rainbow Fish and watched a video and we thought Rainbow Fish was so kind that he made kindness go viral.  This is what Jeyda and Tumanako thought.

"Rainbow Fish was very kind because he shared his beautiful sparkly scales.  Sharing is caring." by Jeyda and Tumanako

Introduction on Fiafia Night

FiaFia 2016 intro from Team 5 PES on Vimeo.
In this video clip you can see how excited everyone was on Fiafia night.  Everyone was so excited to be dressed in their costumes and to walk out and wait for their turn to perform.  The Jump Jam team made a spectacular entrance with their glow in the dark necklaces and bracelets.  Each group gave their best performance and even the MC's did a marvellous job introducing each item.  Well done everyone!

A Huge Brazilian Flag

Room 16 had their photo taken with Flaminio, our gymnastic coach, as he showed us a huge flag from his country.  Flamini explained that his country had a lot of green rainforest so part of the flag was green.  Brazil has a lot of gold so another part was gold coloured.  On the blue part were stars.  One was on its own for the president and the others were the stars in the southern sky.  When we looked closer we saw some stars that looked like they were from our flag.  It was the Southern Cross!

Brazil is hosting the next Olympic Games so we will learn more about this big country later on this year.

Thank you Flaminio for telling us something about your country.

"What's that car doing?"

At lunchtime Temalisi went out into the bay outside Room 16 and said "What is that car doing in our bay?"  We all watched and found out that Little Tractor's battery had gone flat and it wouldn't start.  "Has it got a battery like our iPads?" asked Tumanako.  "We have to charge them when they go flat," said Marius.  The car battery helped Little Tractor start and off he went to do another job.

Making the Sun Shine

"We made the sunshine inside our class,"said Charlotte on a wet day.  "We drew around our hands and cut the handprints out.  Then we made a round circle and cut it out.  Gluing the hand prints around the edge of the circle made it look like the sun was shinning."

Your sunny smiles show how much you enjoyed making the lovely sunshine to brighten up the class when it was too wet to go outside.

Two more days to the Fiafia!

"Yay, only two more days to the Fiafia!" said all the children in Room 16 when we counted down the days until 7 April.  The whole school is involved in the cultural festival and have spent the last 4 weeks practising their singing and dancing or musical items.  Even the 5 year olds are in cultural items.  They are so looking forward to being up on the stage and showing everyone what they have been learning.

"I am excited to dance in front of my family.  I want to do my very best," said Jeyda.

"My whole family is coming to see me in my special costume," said Adrianna.

"Wairua Tapu"

We have been learning the words and actions to our school waiata - "Wairua Tapu".  The waiata has lots of actions so we need to watch Whaea Saf carefully to get them right.
