Planning and Constructing A Marble Run

On the last day of term the children had fun using what they had learnt during Term 2 Inquiry to build a marble run.  They were soon busy planning and building, cutting and taping up boxes and bits and pieces.  The fun part was testing out the marble runs and looking at what other groups had made and getting the other groups to explain how they had made their marble run.  It was a fun end to our simple machines inquiry.

Fiafia 2018

For several weeks last term, the whole school was practising cultural and dance routines to preform on the stage for our whanau and community.  Every two years all the children in the school choose a cultural or dance group to join and everyone is expected to get up on the stage and share part of their culture.  The children were very excited to participating in their first Fiafia and even though the weather was against us they all had a wonderful experience.  Video clips can be seen on the link on the Pt England School web site.

A Duffy Assembly

Henry came to talk to Pt England school and told the children how important it is to learn to read.  Carol West and Kevin Boroevich also came to the assembly.  They are from Dominion Construction who very generously support the Duffy Foundation and make it possible for the children to receive books to take home and treasure.  The children listened to their talk and presented them with a lei and a thank you card they had made.

Friday Fun In Team One

On Friday Team One had a chance to do cooking, art, craft and music.  The group who were in Room 16 did crafts and made a rainbow fish from a hand print.  Alazye then printed on the scales using a stick of celery.

Team Assembly Certificates

During Team one Assemblies some of the children are awarded special certificates in recognition of good behaviour, following the Pt England way or doing some outstanding work.  In week 5 Alazye  and Alexandra got certificates for not missing one day of doing reading practise at home and remembering to return their book bags the next day.  Fateh and Pene have been practising the Pt England way by showing kindness to others in week 6.  Fateh has been showing classmates how to use their iPad when they are stuck and Pene is always kind to others especially if they are feeling sad or they have hurt themselves.  Pene always arrives at school with a lovely smile and brightens up our day.

More Team Work at Kiwi Sport

Working as a team means that everyone needs to co operate in an effort to get the job done and this is what Room 16 had to do to pass a hoop around a circle with everyone holding hands.  There was lots of laughing but everyone helped with encouragement and ideas on how you needed to pass the hoop along the circle.  We also had to keep a ball between a pair of children while trying to sit down and stand up.  Alexandra and Alazye were the first to work out how to do this.
