Now We Are Six.

October has been a busy month for birthdays in Room 16.  These four boys had their birthdays during the holidays and came back to school a whole year older.  Room 16 helped them celebrate with a birthday certificate.

Logan, Pene, Fateh and Feiloaki are now all six years old!

Feeding Time for the Eels

The children fed the eels this morning and they were rather hungry.  They jumped up to eat the crab meat, splashing some of the children.  The children came back to class very excited that they were able to see the eels moving around their tank and splashing.

Fateh's Weekend Story

Fateh has begun to write his own stories.  He wrote "I went to the shops.  I bought some food."  Well done Fateh.  You did a good job at finding some of the words you needed.

Fateh's Stay at the Marae

Fateh spent some time staying at a Marae with his whanau.  He liked sleeping at the Marae and being with all his cousins and his aunty.

Using IPads in their Learning

Logan and Fateh having been using their iPads to complete reading activities.  Logan was asked to draw a picture of what the hungry hedgehog liked to eat and Fateh found he needed to take a picture to insert in his work.  Good work boys that you remembered the skills you needed to help with your reading activities.

Fateh and Feiloaki did some wonderfully detailed pictures in hyperstudio.

Fiafia Bollywood Group

Fateh was in the Bollywood group for the Fiafia.  The group posed for a photo before they performed their item.  They all had beautiful costumes and were excited about dancing for their whanau.

Friday Rotations

We continued our Friday rotations and the children are enjoying going to different teachers and learning different skills.

Friday Fun In Team One

On Friday Team One had a chance to do cooking, art, craft and music.  The group who were in Room 16 did crafts and made a rainbow fish from a hand print.  Alazye then printed on the scales using a stick of celery.

Team Assembly Certificates

During Team one Assemblies some of the children are awarded special certificates in recognition of good behaviour, following the Pt England way or doing some outstanding work.  In week 5 Alazye  and Alexandra got certificates for not missing one day of doing reading practise at home and remembering to return their book bags the next day.  Fateh and Pene have been practising the Pt England way by showing kindness to others in week 6.  Fateh has been showing classmates how to use their iPad when they are stuck and Pene is always kind to others especially if they are feeling sad or they have hurt themselves.  Pene always arrives at school with a lovely smile and brightens up our day.

Learning about Opposites

Learning about opposites by playing a game makes learning fun.

Flying Fox Tails!

During our Friday sports rotation we learnt how to throw a "fox tail".  We were relieved that it wasn't really a fox tail - just a ball with a long tail attached.  The Mt Hobson Middle School boys had some good ideas about technique and Room 16 soon had the fox tails flying.

We are learning to copy and paste and we did a maths activity using our skills.

Playing Games Together

Even though the school picnic had to be postponed we had a fun time on Friday afternoon after the rain cleared.  Team one went out for games and the children enjoyed playing "Rob the nest", Duck, duck, goose,  relays and playing on the playground.

Remembering the korero

At assembly on Fridays Mr Burt asks us to remember the previous weeks korero.  This week Maggie and Fateh were both able to remember a korero and they were not shy about answering in front of all the school.  They each got a principal's award sticker.  Good remembering  Maggie and Fateh.

Duplo Building on a Wet Day

It was wet and stormy so the children had to find tasks to do inside at lunchtime.  Building with the Duplo was a popular choice with a boat, plane and a skyscraper being made.
